Anytime you are working with exhaust you will be faced with very rusted bolts. And if you happen to break one of exhaust manifold bolts, you do not have enough space to drill them out. For some cars, you can drill out by lifting the engine up for couple of inches. For others, you may have to take the engine out to fix.

So make sure that you use heat or use a lot of PB blaster (if heat is not available) before taking the bolts out. For mast cases, the condition of the manifold bolts are better than the other bolts (cat converter, muffler,…) because they usually do not get the road salt.

+1 on using heat and PB blast and alot of praying to the automotive Gods for no broken bolts or studs!

          Good luck C8-)

I often get the engine hot before removing the fasteners especially on Toyotas as they are famous for problems removing exhaust nuts and studs, remember heat is your friend.

              Thanks for posting the update!

Don’t forget to change the traffic light to green if the issue is resolved so it updates our data base C8-)

Breaker bar is a must have for that. I found out the hard way a ratchet won’t provide enough torque. PB Blaster works great. Eric does have a video on exhaust system removal. He was working on his brother’s Integra. I know that video by heart because I watched it 10 times before attempting it.
