My wife asked me to take a look at the light out in the yard that has never worked since the house was purchased last year. So, i took out me’ trusty ol’ meter and did some basic testing; no power at the light and no power at the base of the pole. The breaker panel does not have a yard light listed. I rang out (ohm tested) the circuit in efforts to try to identify which wires in the panel it could be. I believe the problem is most likely crushed conduit resulting in an underground fault. This is due to the difficulty of attempting to pull the underground wire and not seeing anything move inside the breaker box. Just from walking out the possible topology of the underground conduit vs. the layout of the house, i believe the underground conduit would have to make at least 2 bends before ending up in the bottom of the breaker box. I am at the point now of possibly finding an alternate power source to tie into or just completely laying out my own line for this yard light. Another possibility is to break the conduit before it goes under the house and test for power (but I am guessing there won’t be any.) Attached are pictures of the work thus far. I am open for suggestions.
