Hi everyone,
I have been fixing a laundry list of things on this Audi and my last vibration issue(s) was caused by the center bearing in the driveshaft. I replaced that and just about every vibration I had went away.
Now, I’m stuck with two noises and I’m looking for possible causes or other ideas.
About the car:
2004 A4 Quattro (AWD) 3.0
~195K milesProblem(s) I am having:
1. Upon acceleration from a stop the driver front tire makes a thumping noise (Kinda sounds like a flat or flat spot) that goes away until I stop and start again. I will be swapping the tires to see if the noise moves or disappears.
2. When turning the steering wheel all the way to the right and going around in circles in a parking lot. The front driver side also makes this loud grinding noise. Noise only happens when going right, so I’m not sure if something is rubbing or not, but everything looks clean down there.
Work done:
New brake pads.
All upper and lower control arms replaced.
Inner and outer tie rods replaced (Alignment done by mechanic – Don’t think they had a Hunter machine though).
Shocks replaced.
Driver CV axle replaced (I took a gamble to see if this was related).
Front, center (transfer case), and rear diff fluids replacedI do have a hub and wheel bearing on hand that was my next possible culprit.
Known Issue:
I do have a leaking rack and pinion, which will be replaced in the near future. No noises and steering is pretty good easy to use, but does feel a little loose. Fluid isn’t that low to be concerned about. No power steering whining noises or anything either.
Any other things I should check?
Thanks,
Steven
