annoying popping noise?

I have a 1992 Geo Storm with the 1.6L in it. I have completely rebuilt it new cooling system all new exhaust timing everything. The car runs and drives like new now and I have done all the work to it myself. I have a annoying popping noise in the front end of my car when I shift into the next gear and give it some gas. Only after it is fully engaged in gear is when it pops. Its a on and off popping noise and is hard to tell where it is coming from. I have taken it to the tire shop and got all 4 new tires and wheel spin done on it. The tire shop couldn’t figure out what it was. The first thing they checked was the motor mounts but all were good. I just thought about it and my question is what do strut bumper bellows do? I replaced all my struts a year ago and reused my bellows and bumpers but they were so bad that they fell off the strut last year. Is it possible that the bumper missing could be making the popping noise when I give it throttle???

Is this mdel a front or all wheel drive? Could be CV joints.

Test the drive axles aka CV joints. Go to an empty flat parking lot. Turn off the air and radio, roll down both front windows. From a complete stop, turn the steering wheel all tje way left, put it in gear and allow the car to pull itself around in a full circle. Then repeat this with the wheel turned all the right. If it makes the popping noise the most there, or even if it acts like its going over speed bumps that aren’t there, then its definitely a drive axle. Reman ones are usually around $65 each with exchange and they aren’t so hard to change.

See if you can record it- it does sound like your describing CV problems (though anyone worth anything in automotive would have found that, surely.?).

I had an issue once, I thought it was in the front, it turned out to be a AA battery under the carpet rolling around on the frame – nothing serious, but it sounded horrible. My point here is that if you can’t find it outside, it might actually be inside.
CV joint problem is easy to test for.

The axle (CV) issue would pop more while turning also.

Unrelated, but a friend pulled a prank on me once. He put a loose bowling ball in my empty trunk. Every stop, go and turn made a low rolling sound then a hard thud. Nearly gave me a heart attack. Make sure there are no pranksters involved in this.

Sometimes a strut will blow after hitting some object in the road. If you can reach in over a front wheel and pulling in and out on the strut, you get it to make noise, you have found the problem.

Sometimes the springs will do the same thing. The other day I was jacking the front of my dd and as the wheels left the ground I heard a “bong” sound.

Thank you all for your help. I have checked everything out and am impressed. First my cv half shafts are ok. No wear or tear in the boots and there solid. So I took my car to the tire shop the other day and paid 80$ to get a full safety and suspension system check to make sure everything was ok. They said the only problem was my rear right strut. So I replaced both rear today. I told them about the popping noise and they said they tested and checked everything and it all seemed fine. Well I was about to put the bumper bellows I bought today on the strut and then I came across this. Ill try and post a picture of them and let you guys guess what I think it is from there ha.
