Helping my friend with his nice 2006 Acura TL.

An American House Spider had somehow gotten into the speedometer and spun a complex web around the needle. On one occasion, we saw this spider behind the speedometer lens, but we don’t know where he is now.

We yanked off the instrument bezel trim, pulled the instrument cluster, and un-clipped the lens piece. We removed the spider web with a clean paint brush and wiped things down with a slightly damp micro-cloth.

But here’s the question. How did that spider get into the speedometer? There was nothing poorly clipped or badly positioned in the whole assembly. Has anyone had this problem? How was it addressed? We would like to prevent recurrence.

I’m guessing it slipped threw the side of the gauge face, spun a web got hungry slipped back out of the side where it came in from.. may be in the car still or got out threw a hole somewhere I would BOMB the car with a spider repellent if he’s afraid of spiders.. then let the car air out for a couple hours then vacuum the seats and clean the interior really well.. You won’t find that spider unless it spins another web and it stays in the spot it spun the web.. spiders are good hiders and very reclusive. Good luck!

As there just isn’t much to eat inside a car (unless it is a pit), the spider will probably go to find a better place. That is if he hasn’t starved to death by now.

Spiders build webs where they hope to catch prey.

I would not go bombing it with insecticides though. That stuff is pretty toxic and messy. I do not know what glue traps have spider attractants but maybe place one of those under each seat. and situate a couple under the dash. Careful with the traps though, that glue is NASTY sticky. Find them at most hardware stores.

            Thanks guys.

My friend has owned this car for its 11 years, so we are hoping it take another 11 years for a spider to find his way in.

Unfortunately, by that time we’ll have forgotten how we got in the to clean up!
