Am I the only one that feels like dealer prices are too high?

I don’t know, I was in an accident so I’m forced to go car shopping.

      I have two options
I can buy a cheap car in cash (craigslist)
I have two pre-approved financing offers (@ 3.2%/3.6% finance rate), which would allow me to buy a better more expensive car.

The finance offers exclude private party, so I’m left with dealerships. Problem is, I don’t want to spend much at this time in my life. The cheaper cars at dealerships are often… overpriced? Or is it just me.

      I’m looking… 2008 Sportage for $15,000, really?

(PS: I don’t want to hear advice on how I should just pay cash for a car and eat lettuce for lunch  )

        Hi Lone Fox,

Dealers charge more and lenders charge less (lower interest) for the same reason; less risk buying from a dealer.

That’s why you’re willing to pay a bit more. The dealer can’t run away from a disaster but a private seller can.

Personally I thought the prices at dealers were actually low considering if you search up how much there worth on kellybluebook.com. I do agree though that $15,000 is way too much for a Kia Sportage, have you tried negotiating with the dealer yet? Maybe he can lower the price and honestly dealers are more reliable than buying from an individual.

You have to negotiate at the invoice price. Dealer prices are BS.

I don’t buy new, so “invoice” is mumbo.

It’s no secret… NEVER go to the dealer unless you have to.

They have OEM parts. You get exactly what your car came with originally. They have cornered the market for parts for OEM parts for your vehicle. Therefore, expect to pay out the wazoo when you go to the dealer.

                DON’T: Go to the dealer.

DO: Go to the junkyard. Autozone/Advance and others are also good options.

DO: Go online to order cheap parts.
