      Hi all,

I’ve just bought an 08 Toyota Sienna and I decided to give Valvoline instant oil change store a chance. The store looks nice and the people there are friendly. My car uses 6.3 qtz of oil and I purchased “long life semi-synthetic.” At the end, they charged me more than $70 which surprised me.

      Am I ripped off?

Sounds legit… pretty good price for a 6.3qt. synthetic oil change.

You can save about $20 doing it yourself but then you have to deal with the mess and oil disposal.

$80 for a drive through oil change where I live , as far as I know they use Castrol oil , never used one myself though .

In a word YES you are being ripped off, but not more than anyone else who goes to those cons.

*edit…I don’t mean so much in terms of price, but in terms of you having no idea whether they actually did the work. Those types of places are notorious for not doing the work at all (leaving with same oil filter you drove in with), or not giving you what you pay for (using conventional oil when you paid for synthetic oil). Etc.

Those things are possible at any shop but MUCH more likely at those quick-change type places. Better off at a regular mechanic or doing it yourself.

Agreed, that’s a fair price. Don’t forget the time and hassle you saved and the people that service your car need to make money too.

Technically, materials, labor and overhead speaking yes it’s fair. But you can do better, and much better by doing it yourself.

I have found that Groupon offers a discount coupon for Valvoline. I get about 15 bucks off with the groupon. I buy it before I go then show it to them on my phone
