Greeting Gent, Daughters 1997 Suzuki Sidekick~ Let me describe this problem and give a little background:
A couple months ago daughters car had a dead battery while at work. She bought a New Battery and was installing it when I arrived to help. ( I am a retired Mechanic)
A few days later Again Low Battery. Wife said Bring an Alternator and install it here. Well, I did install the Alternator rather than argue.
The car not running tested at 12 volts, with engine running tested at 13+volts. The car, Sidekick, ran well for a couple weeks and the problem was back. I brought the car to the lower ranch,
I removed the Alternator and took both the New Alternator and the one that had been in the car to be tested.
BOTH ALTERNATORS tested GOOD.
I REinstalled the Alternator that had been in the Suzuki, cleaned the Grounds, there are several. cleaned the many contacts including the battery clamps, it has those flimsly Jap clamps, don’t like them.
The Alternator Charging ‘System looked fine and worked for a one month!
IT SEEMS THAT DAMP WEATHER AND THIS PROBLEM COME TOGETHER.
During a snow storm yesterday( we were at the mountain ranch) daughter started for work got a half mile from the house and the car stopped, we went to the car removed the battery., charged the battery, re installed the battery and the testing found the Alternator again working. However a few hours later I again Tested and the Alternator was no longer working!
Long story, I know.
When I stopped working as a mechanic ECMs were just a dream.
If you have and idea of what I should test for I’d sure like to know.
I’ll have the Sidekick here in a couple days. I have OEM manuals, at the mountain place, I can get them when I get the car towed here. There is one young fellow on this forum that does a bit of work on Zukis, I sent him message letting him know I would start a this thread.

We’re having some interesting weather out here in the west.
Our mountain ranch is in a valley not far from Tahoe, I’m now at our High Desert ranch in Nevada.
