Alternate Jack lift points

      Hello all,

      I drive 2006 hyundai sonata and I am trying to learn how to do some of the routine maintenance myself to try and save some money.

        Anywhere along the pinch weld is fine to lift the car long enough to put the jack stands under it at the recommended lift points. You could also probably put the jack under the front lower control arms and lift the car by those. The reason the owner’s manual only lists those 4 specific jack points is because that’s where you’d have to put the little screw jack that came with the car to lift it enough to put the spare tire on. Just set the jack right behind wherever you decide to put the jack stand and then lift the car.

          i have a 99 honda accord and for the front i always use my 3 ton floor jack and i place it slightly behind the front tires but under neath touching the underbody, around where you see the stabilizer bars starting from…then i place my stands somewhere along the frame rails when i get it up high enough

            Whenever I lift a car, I first think of where is the best place to put the jack for the job that I am doing. If you are doing the basic oil change I would lift the car up with the sub frame. Then put the jack stands under the pinch welds. (If you have a rusty car where you cannot put the jack stands under the pinch welds. Put the stands under the lower control arm or under the sub frame.)

            If you are wanting to see if you have any bad steering or suspension components, you need to be careful where you put the jack stands. If you have a Mcfearson assembly (Strut and lower control arm assembly) you can put the jack stands anywhere that is safe for the vehicle being lifted. Now if you have an SLA suspension (upper and lower control arm assembly) you HAVE TO put jack stands under the lower control arm. If you dont you cannot condemn the upper and lower ball joints because the need to have the weight of the vehicle on the joints.

            Please DO NOT lift a vehicle with out jack stands. It is unsafe and it could lead to injury or even death.
