This code is for a Pre-Tensioner (P/T) electrical related issue in the drivers side seatbelt assembly circuit or elsewhere in the SRS electrical circuit…
What some modern cars have now is a very small explosive charge in the seat belt assembly…. Simply stated, when the airbags fire, the pre tensioner squib essentially explodes and allows a piston to tighten up the retractor on the seat belt… Thus tightening it, very quickly… Also, it is a one time use thing…
It is normally not a DIY kind of thing to repair… You can look for loose, pinched or disconnected wires, but barring that, best to take to the dealership….

Toyota Karl – It’s been awhile (got side tracked), but finally took the Tundra in got it diagnosed (my diagnosis was correct)and was fixed on Tuesday at the dealership. Life seemed good until today when the warning light came on again. The same code is showing…argh. I’m hoping it is a faulty $329.00 seat belt assembly. Will let you know. Thanks again for your assistance and if you have any thoughts on the repeating of the code (B0138). Auto Hack
wow $329? Thats more than a seatbelt from VW! cheap side of things you can just get a seat belt at AutoZone for like $25. ScottyKelmer (another YouTube Mechanic) explains this in a video he did a few years back.
EDIT: Personally, I wouldn’t even worry about it the Airbags themselves should still function normally however due note that once airbags deploy it’s an automatic total from insurance companies if you have full coverage. The Airbags alone for replacements are probably worth more than the car is assuming you buy them from the dealer.
