Where does one get the blunt tips for use in an air hammer? Also I’m looking for a good yet fairly inexpensive air tool for roloc discs, any suggestions?

Make sure you get the right diameter bit for the air hammer but, I would suggest getting a Mayhew one they are hard to break.

Mayhew Pro 81982 4-Inch Carded Pneumatic Hammer

As for cut off tools or angle grinders I suggest Chicago Pneumatic. DO NOT GET Central Pneumatic.

Any larger parts tore will have the air hammer part you want. Specifically Napa sells a lot of tools, they have a large catalogue and quarterly promos. They also sell a most common specialty tools and I’ve personally found their prices aren’t that bad.

Most any right angle die grinder will be good for using rolocs on. If you look you can probably find one with the adapter. I would stay away from the really low end ones, they are loud and annoying. We actually shamed a guy at work into replacing his because it was so loud and it was the same pitch as a dentists drill.

There is a drawback with the roloc discs used on a die grinder. The roloc discs on a die grinder can do damage, this is when cleaning gasket surfaces used on a die grinder.GM has a TSB on this not to use them. The little pieces can get in the oil which the oil filter can’t trap can cause premature engine failure. There have been cases of this happening including the use of scotchbrite pads.

Good thing for rookies to know.

In all honesty though a technician would know that. Same goes for bits of metal and a wire wheel.

That’s true and I’m glad you mentioned that. I still think he should get one though since there are a lot of gasket surfaces that don’t involve the lubrication system.

I wonder if the issue is not that the oil filter can’t trap it, it’s that the particles embed before they reach the filter. If you clean off a valve cover, for example, they have a lot of travel to do before reaching the filter. IDK it just would seem pathetic that a high quality filter couldn’t handle roloc grit…it would make me wonder why I spend so much on a quality filter.

I use the stainless steel cup brushes on a die grinder and no issues.Die grinders, check out the deals on the tool truck.I did and bought a Matco .75 HP 90 degree die grinder and got the straight one for free last year.Matco had this out.I go on a tool forum called Garage Journal, there are members on there that have bought the HF die grinders and never had a problem with one yet.

Can you use them on brake drums and rotors? Especially on the hat portion that’s in contact with the hub assembly that’s usually rusted? I just ordered an Astro Pneumatic angle and straight die grinder plus some coarse 3m roloc discs and a 3m roloc holder. thanks
