On my 2003 grand am there is an air duct before the air filter box. It’s 2 pieces. One connects to the air box there’s a rubber seal between the 2 pieces. The other piece goes down into the wheel well for the engine to suck air in. The part in the wheel well has separated from the part connected to the air box.

Will this cause any fuel mileage problems since the engine is sucking in hotter air now?

      Thank you

to my understanding as long as it does not jeopardize the filtration of the air it is not a major issue, if the air the engine is taking in still has to pass through the filter it should be fine… a little split should not hurt anything.

what will really hurt your engine is if the filter cannot do its job, or if there is a intake leak after the MAF sensor, if your have the 3400 SFI engine…

^^^ Ace of spades is pretty spot on… Your only problem is your air filter may get dirty quicker
