I have a problem with my 1989 toyota cressida 7mge 3.0. Yesterday i discovered that it would not idle until i unplugged the air flow meter. When i unplugged it it idled but the idle was very high. This let me know that my problem was within the air flow meter. I took it off the car and discovered that the flap was stuck. I tapped it with a screwdriver and now the flap is free again. The problem is that the car still idles high now that i have done this. Please help asap thanks in advance

I also want to add that when i took off the whole snorkel box and put my hand over the hole, the engine ran silky smooth until i took my hand off
If the car smoothed out with covering the intake. Check your
IAC sounds like its bypassing to much air. Try unplugging it
with everything hooked up.Also check for rips/tears in the air

+1 it does sound like it might be an IAC issue. It could also be that your throttle cable is adjusted too tight. It could also be that someone adjusted the idle incorrectly. More information in the articles College man posted.

When i unplug the air flow meter the car will idle perfectly until i press the gas or put the car in gear.. If i leave it running and plug it back up, the car dies… If i try to start the car while it is plugged up, it will not idle on its own unless i play with the accelerator.. What could this indicate? Faulty air flow meter?
