Air compressor regulator

Hi im new to spray painting with a spray gun, i cant get hold of should i adjust the pressure at the gun. My 50l 2.5hp compressor cuts out at about 120 psi, then when i try to adjust the gun pressure at the regulator on the tank it only goes down about 10psi maximum, for example if tank psi is 120 psi when i press the gun trigger it only goes down to 110 psi, do i need an air pressure regulator at the gun also to regulate it properly ?

Keep the compressor tank at the 120 psi and add a regulator and gauge right at the
gun inlet.
