Browsing eBay i cam across this Custom RAM cold air intake for my Daewoo:

and This is what it would look like installed:

2 questions 1 is this a good idea will i gain HP? 2 how do i remoave the MAF/Air Tempature sensor off the stock airbox hose to install in into this one?

That is a nice hot air intake. I see nothing in the pictures that would make it a cold air intake since it would be drawing air from the engine bay.

Putting a cold air intake is actually a pretty good idea. I just did it on my 03′ Maxima. However you do NOT gain horsepower a lot of people say you do but believe it me it does not. However for me it did honestly increase my acceleration speed by a little bit, but as for horsepower it does not do anything. As for the sensors they should just be removed like any other sensor and they should fit directly onto your cold air intake if you bought one designed for your car. And one more thing I should add is you shouldn’t really be buying parts for your car on eBay. A really good site to buy parts such as a cold air intake is carid.com. They can be expensive but its worth it.

black hole you see in front of the cone filter in second pic IS where air comes in

Yeah but the intake is not connected to it so it will just pull air from around the engine.Everything always takes the path of least resistance, that is why there is a shroud around the fan otherwise it would pull air around the radiator instead of through it. You could make a housing so that the filter could only get air from the hole in the fender but that seems like more work than what it is worth. I stand by my earlier statement that it is a hot air intake you would have there.

I can just place it inside the OE airbox (or use half of it w/e) does it drawing in hot air really matter?

Yes it matters because more power is produced with cold air hot air would actually be worse than the stock intake. I’m not sure on the specifics but it has something to do with the fuel mixture of warm vs. cold air. cold air is denser than warm air.
I like the idea of using the stock airbox though.

Ill see what i can do but all cone filters are just out in the open few have funnels

EDIT: what is if just didnt plug in the MAF sensor?

A cold air intake is supposed to give your engine more horsepower beacuse of several factors

1 it is drawing in cold air away from the heat of the engine compartment, air that is cooler than your stock airbox, there is typically a shroud that separates the intake from the engine compartment so it is drawing in cold air that is more condensed allowing more air into your engine.

2 the ducting and even the filter itself typically conical in shape is supposed to be less restrictive as the piping is typically more straight forward or smoother allowing freeier airflow, and the conical filter typically has more surface area than a panel filter allowing better airflow… and if it is a cotton based air filter like the K&N filter it is initially supposed to allow freeier air flow.

there are several issues with a cold air intake especially this one, this is not a cold air intake as stated, it will draw in hot air from your engine bay, secondly if your car is turbocharged, a cold air intake will have little benefit from being a cold air intake as typically the air is heated up buy the turbocharger and then cooled buy the inter cooler too a certain temperature… in a N/A engine a cold air intake is probably more beneficial as the air is not being heated buy a turbo and re cooled buy a inter cooler pretty much making the air going into the engine a certian temperature.

in conclusion weather you will see benefit from a cold air intake depends on the design of your cars current intake, and weather or not it is forced induction.

                          It is naturally asperrated

This is pretty much the same thing just using the stock Intake hose:

than getting a good straight forward intake with a conical filter, and being able to supply that intake with cold fresh air may be able too benefit performance, i have no idea what the stock intake on your car is like.

im not sure either from what i can tell the cold air intake comes in from the passenger side wheel area

here is the intake to air filter:

far left is what the stock airbox connects to.

you may see some benefits in performance if your current intake pluming has lots of bends and baffles, but your performance increase will hardly be noticeable, all the big power increases come from modifying your fuel system as well as getting deeper into modifying the intake system, as deep as changing throttle bodies and intake plenums and ports and polishes… as well as different cam shafts and increasing compression ratios, along with ignition system modifications and PCM tuning.

although i have noticed short air intakes and cold air intakes give off a nice induction tone, and sometimes improve the appearence of the engine bay, of course this is in the eye of the beholder.
