I have new motor mounts waiting to go into my 2005 Jeep Liberty 3.7L. The FSM makes it seem very simple – wood block under oil pan, jack up engine until fan almost touches shroud, unbolt mounts and replace.

It can’t be that simple, there have to be gotchas…

Has anybody done this job with the engine in the vehicle? I know it’s a snip with the engine out and on a stand, but this is our DD and I don’t have the time, equipment or space to do a full engine pull.

I’ve never done it either. That’s the problem here.

It probably is that simple apart from the locations of the mounts and you might need to disconnect a few other things to be able to jack it up far enough, something like maybe the radiator hoses so you dont bend and deform them, transmission mounts or bell housing depends on engine bay

You might get a look up under there to see what you’re in for. There may be clearance issues with the 4wd if you have it. Not to mention the exhaust. Also, make sure the mounts really are bad before you commit. Good luck and keep us posted.

Haven’t done that either but they looked dead simple to replace when I was working on my cousin’s KJ. They’re very low, like parallel to the frame rail and ahead of the exhaust. FWIW, her Liberty was having a rough/shaky idle and new upstream O2 sensors cured it.

If they are cracked or the engine moves a lot during a stall test, I would only replace with OEM. I wouldn’t torque down the mount bolts until both mounts are changed and the jack is removed.
