      Hi all,
I recently posted this question in a different part of the forum, but i was hoping for more responses so I thought I would try my luck here. The information I am looking for is really not specific to any particular make or model, but more of a generalization. Here Goes:
If someone were to drop the pan and drain the fluid and put the pan back up on there transmission and not have a good specification on how much atf to put back in. what would be a safe amount to put into the transmission before starting the engine. Eric the car guy on his subaru video used 4 I believe and another forum member told me that he would start with 2-3 for cars 3-4 for light trucks. Is this the best for all situations?

I am also curious as to, if you should check the stick and where it should be at before starting the engine the initial time after some atf has been put in.
any information regarding this would be much appreciated and also any additional info would be great
      thanks

Before you drop the trans pan you should check the level.
If you didn’t, and do not know the specifics fluid capacities about your vehicle ( which most can be searched out on line )
Safest method would be …. add and check, at least till you properly register on the dipstick.
Then start the engine (many(not all) transmissions require the motor running to get a correct fluid level) and check the level.
        Add fluid as required.

Honestly, there really is no one size fits all these days. Many different transmission configurations. That said, I like to start with 3-4 as you stated. You could also measure what comes out when you do the service to get a good idea of what should go back in.
