Yea you don’t want the spiky side coming at you if it deploys.
Changing a carpet isn’t much more work than you see here. You would need to remove the lower part of the back seat and some of the trim, but after that it should come right out. You would purchase a carpet that is already fitted to the vehicle. It would be just like replacing any other part. There are people that do custom carpet work but I’m not one of them.
