I have a 2005 Acura MDX. The temperature guage was reading about a quarter of the way and the heater was blowing out cool air. I replaced the thermostat and using a spill free funnel, and following Eric’s video bled the cooling system. I then drove the vehicle for a 20 min drive, and tried out the heater, and it was working real well. On the ride back home, after the vehicle sat for about 2 hours, I tried the heater again, only to find it blowing out cold air again. I touched both heater hoses, one was hot, the other cold. Could it be more air in the system, because if the heater core was blocked, I wouldn’t of had heat on the first ride, right?
Also the temp gauge only goes up about a quarter of the way the vehicle also has rear heat with separate controls. Would this affect the way I bleed the system?

Check the coolant level, you may have to bleed the system again…

You might want to bleed the system again because it sounds like you still have air. Also, I find that aftermarket thermostats don’t work as well in Hondas and can sometimes cause issues with bleeding the air out of the cooling system. Here’s the bleeding procedure. Don’t worry that you don’t have a bleeder valve, just follow all the other steps. Since you have the funnel that should help a lot.

You could also have a leak somewhere that is allowing air to get into the coolant system and the air likes to hide in the heater core. You may need to find the leak with a pressure test. You might want to go over the clamps you removed when replacing the thermostat. That could be where the air is getting in or you could have multiple leaks.
