Hello, I have a acura integra 94 LS all stock. The problem I’m having is after i replaced my thermostat, the car is having problems starting up bu once its on it runs smooth. And also, after the T-stat replacement, the car now has a check engine light. I checked the thermostat housing’s ground and it was fine. All i did was replaceme a T-stat and now its hard to start. Please help, i even check the fuses under the hood, all good. Could it be a main relay?

It may be relay related, but diagnosis should begin with knowing the error code.

Start by pulling that code and finding out what it is… Post it here and we can assist…

Odd. Have you tried re installing the thermostat?
Maybe you got a connection wet when pulling off the lower hose? Very strange.

So it started fine prior to thermostat replacement and then gives trouble after replacement? That is odd. Thermostats have nothing to do with intitial starting. Spark, fuel and air do. Id start with verifying spark. Begin at the battery and move to coils, wires and plugs. If all checks out give an ear to injectors, fuel pressure etc. Vacuum leaks can be checked for while doing these two tests. If all fuses are good and relays have been verified as good then thats where id go. Eric has a video on relay testing that most guys dont do….it can click yet still not send a signal.

                  …by send a signal I mean close a circuit.

I was thinking maybe a ground? Idk if coolant can affect the ground wires near the thermostat housing area. i check my fuses but i still need to check the relay

So the trouble is intermittent according to the video. A bad boot on the wire can act up like this. When it idles, listen for an intermittent pop or snap. This is a long limb im out on here but it has happened before woth an interment miss. First step is get the codes read though. Second step is keep us posted.

A rough idle upon start up and thermostat seem unrelated to me. given the detergents in gasoline nowadays, injectors are moved lower down the list. How many miles? Id check spark and vacuum with wother a torch wand, carb cleaner or soapy water while I was checking spark on each cylinder via the wire and coil pack. But first id have that/those codes pulled

The check engine light code if for the engine coolant sensor.. im guessing this just needs replacing but still does not explain the hesitation of car startup. All i did was just a T-stat change. :pinch:

                            So check the codes.

                              I did CEL=6

An engine miss may not set a code if the miss count is below the specified number of misses to set a code. A power balance test can isolate the cylinder if there is a miss which causes a rough idle. Spark would be abobe fuel in my diagnosis of this rough idle. Watch it idle in the dark and listen for snaps that are not normal. Youlle see anarch from the boot to block if this is the case. Real fixes real fast has a series on this when a scan tool is no good on an engine miss.

As far as that code goes, id read up on it, try a reinstall etc. But that code doesn’t seem to fall on line woth a rough idle right at start up.

Go drive it. Put it under heavy load at 50-60 mph and see if it bucks and hesitates on you. Watch for a flashing check engine light. When did you change your plugs last? Have you pulled em to look?
