I had a discussion with an Acura parts dealer in the US and they informed me that they are not allowed to sell parts to Canada. They also stated that they have no way of verifying that parts in their catalogue will be compatible with a Canadian car as they don’t have access to Canadian VIN information and that the part number may be different.
Does anyone know what the likelihood of a part not fitting on a Canadian car ordered when ordered from a US supplier would be? The part in question is a steering rack and the price difference is about $400-$500 hence why I am shopping on the US.

When you figure out the price difference, are you including all the costs? If it’s getting shipped you have to add the 30% (or so) exchange rate, the cost of shipping a part that size and weight and the average 20% customs and taxes. Most items don’t offer much real savings once you ship them over the border.
If your model has an unique identifiers in the VIN, their system may not properly decode it completely. Vehicle identification is done solely with the VIN number in a dealership environment and it’s even creeping into the aftermarket to identify some variations.
It is also likely that they aren’t allowed to sell you parts as part of their dealership agreement, the same reason they won’t sell you a new car and even if you get your hands on one as soon as you cross the border the warranty is usually void.
You could either do some cross referencing and try to find a Honda number that is the same part, go aftermarket or physically go to the US and buy the part.
