      Hello everyone,
My car 1990 Accord Sedan Auto. Every thing is stock except for the stereo system. The car is well maintained by myself since I got it in 2008. Here’s a [URL=”http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=188160″%5Dglimpse%5B/URL%5D of it. The plugs are NGK G-power, wires are new Denso, cap and rotor are OEM, EGR plugs cleaned 2 years ago and problem existed since I got it through today and wonder what is it. It’s not as bad lately but I do notice it.
Basically when I go on the freeway accelerating, every thing going smooth, until I get from 3rd to 4th gear. The Tach meter between 2400-2600rpm, and before hitting 3000rmp, I notice the meter hesitate and drop about 100-200rpm and the meter flick right back up to normal. It’s just a slight instant. I barely notice the car hesitate a little also. I wonder if it’s some thing any one has experience and has a fix for it?
I can’t think of any thing right now, possibly the igniter or the coil? But if those 2 items are bad wouldn’t symptoms be more consistent throughout.

Thanks for any idea or help.

it may be the igniter having a problem. The tach
gets its signal from there. with the tach dropping
may indicate igniter issue. have you tested spark
to see if you have a good blue spark? also check
        the igniter itself.

I have checked the sparks and the using the Helm’s manual for my car and tested the igniter, all is good. This why it puzzles me. I think the igniter could still be bad after all this time, 22 years old and 164K miles. But what’s the point of the test in place that can’t 100% confirms it. I am going to the junkyard to pull one off a 94 dizzy next week. I don’t have $90 to drop for a new NEC or Hitachi. I don’t want to spend less for an aftermarket that last only 2 years either.
Any suggestion on other route to get an igniter that is affordable?
          Thanks.

try the junk yard igniter. you may want the
coil to.Try one piece at a time.If the price
is right.get the whole distributor. keep us posted.

you need to take into account that if the autobox is electronic then each time the car changes gear a signal is sent to the engine ecu to cut throttle while changing gears ? (just a thought)

No oil in the dizzy. To specifically put it, I would say it’s already in 4th gear when this happens. It’s only occur when I push the car. If I go easy on the gas pedal, this problem does not happen. I bought a OEM Honda dizzy a while back from Ebay, it says from a Honda Accord 91. The dude sent me the dizzy for an external coil from the 92. So it has only the igniter in it. Maybe I will try that. I don’t want to strip the screws that hold the igniter in place.
