the door locks on my ’97 Accord have been self energizing for some time (door locks can be heard self energizing with an intermittent odd interval clicking
sound ) in the locked condition; either remotely or manually locked. Recently, however , locking the doors sets off the horn in alarm mode ( beeping at
regular intervals as opposed to continuous beep ). My question is how do I diagnose and isolate the problem and hopefully correct it?

I looked at a diagram for the 2.2
        http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/Wd/DownloadPdf?id=4575

Looks like the horn and locks are controlled by the security control unit. The lock and unlock inputs are just simply grounds. So your door lock switch is just sending ground to either the lock or unlock pin on the SCU. If you have an intermittent short to ground it would cause random locking and unlocking. If a module looses a ground it can also do weird things.
You could start by looking at the area where all the wires enter the door. Every time you open and shut your door it causes movement in the wires in that spot and can cause damage to them eventually.
I don’t know what else the SCU controls but it may be an option to unplug it permanently or until you can fix the problem. You would lose your auto lock and alarm functions and maybe some other stuff, but in some cases that’s better than having gremlins controlling those functions.

It sounds like it may be a door lock actuator issue. When they fail the door locks get minds of their own.

I would start by trying to isolate the failed component by unplugging individual parts and checking for the issue to still be present. The easiest place to start would probably be the master lock switched on each of the front doors. If neither of those resolves the issue then proceed by disconnecting individual door lock actuators on door with the malfunctioning locks.

It is also possible that you have broken wiring in the door jamb, the body harness should connect to the door harness on the body side of the door jamb up behind/under the dash. Again disconnecting individual components attempting to isolate the issue.

          Also, hows your car battery?
