Ok My daily drivers AC has decided to pack in the blower works fine but there is no cold air. and I’m struggling to work out the route of the cause.

Car is an Vauxhall (opel) astra h 2007 z19dth with 55k on the clock.

Started off with a regas with leak test + UV dye (recovererd 315G) the vehicle takes 450g there was also no sign of a leak while looking with a uv torch and glasses.

the compressor is getting voltage and the pressure of the system is 720kpa

The Ac switch is working the AC cut of if not activated.

The outside air temp switch is working correctly.

The Rpm Raises when the AC is turned on and the Clutch appears to be in good order ( have not removed the belt yet to feel the operation)

      No fault codes stored

Looking for further tests to carry out to confirm what is actually wrong

see if this link helps. Would you be able to convert your readings to psi instead
        of kpa?

          720kpa is about 104 psi

Only thing in the doc i haven’t done is replace the receiver/drier which I’m not sure is the issue due to the age and use of the car I’ll change it if there are no other routes to go down but I’d like to run some more tests before i start just throwing parts.

Is that pressure you reported a static pressure? Can you check high and low side pressures with the AC running? Reading those pressures might help narrow down a root problem. Next thing I’d want to look at is the expansion device. If that thermal expansion valve is in plain sight, you might want to give it a tap. Maybe it’s stuck closed. Look for something blocking the evaporator core externally if you can. You’d be looking for dirt or dust build up, or maybe even a small rodent’s nest blocking the cooling fins of the core. You’d want to investigate blend doors too. If your HVAC controls are all electronic, a fancy schmancy scan tool with bidirectional controls might be able to help you test those out.

The pressue is just a pressure reading of the MVB’s with the AC running
Nothing to test the high/low side with Ran the Car into work to regas it the pressures looked normal on the gauges but cant remember the exact numbers now, the thermal expansion valve is behind the bumper as is the condensor and cooling fan, was hoping to avoid it but I’ll drop it after work tomorrow and see what I can see. As for the switches they are all working as they should.

If the low side is 104 psi either the clutch is not running or your overcharged. If you could
read high and low side pressures with the compressor running and the outside ambient
that would be a great help.

cant get High and Low through MVB’s so would need to put the car back on the air con machine which wont happen till next weekend as new boss is starting this week and working on your own car during work hours isn’t the best way to make a good impression 😉

I’d buy a set of gauges but seeing as i wouldn’t trust the shitty ones and the price of a good pressure gauge set up that will never get used as I have a fully automatic AC machine at work it’s a lot of money for a 1 time use.
