I have a 1988 Honda Prelude Si 4WS with 5 speed trans. I had replaced the entire ac system with all new parts. I use R-12 cause the 134a i used in the old ac system could not get cold enough due to the condensor. Ac has been ice cold and working like a champ. But the other day i had fixed a bad power steering leak at the resevoir wich had coated the ac clutch. i cleaned everything. then 2 days ago i noticed the ac clutch had started sliding off! I had purchased a Visteon compressor new not reman when i did the ac job this past summer. I do not know if a bolt holds the clutch on or if it was riveted. Anyone know What i need to do??? according to manufacturer it is a 6mm bolt that holds the clutch on but want to be sure. Is there a standard length or should i just try trial and error with different lengths to reattach this clutch?? If anyone can find a pic of this ac clutch or have had this problem ANY help is appreciated.

This is an aftermarket ac compressor but not a reman so this schematic doesn’t help. I have the FSM and it has a diagram also, but again this is not the “honda” oem part.I am gonna try a 6 or 8 mm bolt and see if i can’t salvage this debacle.

The only thing left It’s to try and maybe If you cannot do anything you might use a belt for the no A/C car.

There is a 6mm bolt that holds the outer part of the clutch on. You’re going to have to reset the clearance however. It’s done with shims where the outer clutch assembly attaches. I believe the clearance should be .045 but don’t quote me on that. There are different sized washers that you use to set the proper clearance. Failure to set the proper clearance can cause the clutch to fail. Keep us posted.

Luckily the shims stayed inside the ac clutch so no worries there, but i will check gap to cover my ass. Thanks for the info Eric. Much Gratitude!!

Call Visteon (734) 710-5000 and explain your problem and give them the model of the compressor you purchased, they may send you a replacement bolt possibly as a courtesy or under warranty

Used a 6mm bolt with some locktite and screwed it in tight and it has been performing beautifully! Thanks for the forum Eric! Gratitude.
