Any tricks you guys use to get these sensors out and not destroy them during the process? Every one I have ever worked on has been a royal pain to remove, few would have been reusable after the fact, but they were confirmed dead so that wasn’t a big deal. Now i have one that’s a little quirky and don’t want to destroy it just in case it’s not the sensor.

I’m supposed to see about .120mv output but I have 1 that’s not getting above .040mv, it’s resistance is lower than the other 3, but the kicker is it’s resistance is still in spec. One possibility is the tone ring, but unfortunately the ring is in the rear axle housing so you either have to remove the sensor to see it (see question 1 above), or remove the axle shaft to get at it. So, have you ever seen one fail the voltage output test but still be within spec for the resistance?

Not sure what you are working on, the biggest problem here is rust build up between the speed sensor mount and speed sensor causing the speed sensor gap to go out of specs causing your concern. Unfortunetly, in my experience, the rust bores it’s way down the speed sensor hole and binds the sensor causing it to break during removal. You can try removing the retaining bolt and spraying rust penetrant at it while gently twisting the sensor. Best bet is to replace it and remove the corrosion.

Yeah, you probably will not be able to get it out without breaking it, try soaking it like BAXMAN68 said.

            Quoted From EricTheCarGuy:

In fact I’ve seen lots of electrical components that passed a resistance check and were still bad, especially ignition coils, resistance checks are hit or miss in my experience. Personally +2 on soaking it with penetrating oil and praying to the car gods to see if they will let you take that sensor out without breaking it. BTW they accept blood offerings so if you manage to cut yourself you might have a better chance.

            That made me laugh!
