Having tried to press out the rear axle out of the wheel hub using a shop press, with no success and after 15 ton pressure, I wondered if anyone on the forum had overcome this problem and how? Car is 16 years old. Is there a useful chemical on the market? I’m not a fan of bashing the axle out 🙂

Some are real PITAs and require special tools… What is the year and make of yours?

lots and lots of heat and a sharp tap with club hammer.

Bashing might be the only way to get it out. I had one so bad I had to torch it out and install a new axle, bearing and hub.

Don’t laugh-I don’t know if you own the press you mentioned, but if you do then try this: If you have a large upright or chest type freezer, put the axle in it overnight. Take it out the next day and IMMEDIATELY try the press work again. Nothing to lose…..

yes I’m thinking that extreme pressure or heat could weaken the metal and prove it useless. May have to replace things like you did. thanks for the post.
