      Hey guys,

I have a hole in my refrigerant hose (from a timing belt fray). I am about to remove the old (damaged) refrigerant hose and replace it with a new one. Was wondering if there are any other parts within the A/C system that should be replaced simultaneously when replacing the A/C Refrigerant Hose.

      Thanks!

Depending on the age of the vehicle.
You may want to consider replacing the filter / dryer.
Be prepared to pump the system down using a manifold set and vacuum pump and adding the correct amount of oil and Freon.

Sounds like I should take my car somewhere to have that done?

            If not familiar with AC…
It would be a wise investment to have a professional do the work.
At least that way you have some type of warranty on the parts and work done.

+1. My advice would also be to take it to a shop. You could probably replace the hose yourself, but if you have to hire a shop to do the evac and charge then the additional labor for them to replace the hose is negligible. It is usually cheaper to pay the shop instead of the investment for the DIY to purchase A/C tools as well as a supply of dye, oils, and refrigerants, unless they are experienced and plan to do a fair amount of A/C work. Also note that it is environmentally irresponsible to release refrigerants into the air. (It’s also illegal, but most DIY don’t care about that because they don’t believe they will be caught–and they’re right, they probably won’t, but it still harms the environment nonetheless).

Thanks for the advice! Im fairly sure the system has been evacuated when the hole was created (fair amount of steam was released if i remember correctly), there is no pressure and minimal freon left in the system as we speak. I have already purchased the replacement hose, for $30, so now im wondering where to take the car to have the hose put in and have the system vacuumed and recharged.

Evacuated = drawing the vacuum on the system. Anyhow, most every shop can do these repairs. Look in your local ads for coupons or discounts on A/C service now that warm weather is starting to show up.
