A/C Oil

I had a question about where I can fill the A/C system oil because this gauge set doesn’t have service line access to pour. It’s has a schrader valve. I’ve watched Eric’s A/C charge video on YouTube and his gauge hose has an open end. I know Autozone carry’s an A/C refrig w/oil for the low pressure line but is out of stock and I need to get it up and gong as soon as possible. I’ve read that when you change out the drier you can fill it thru there after you vacuum the system. Is this O.K. to do ? Don’t know any other way but order some refrig w/oil online and wait for it which I really can’t do because the pump and gauges don’t belong to me or find an alternative way to add it. And is going to get hot again soon and I’m strapped for time. Sorry for the finger fiddle here. lol. Thanks for any advice.

I also needed to add that my Mom has a 2003 L200 same engine and we looked at the relays in her’s tonight and found that the relay top lettering are right side up on her fuse block and my clutch relay and one other is upside down. We were stumped at that one too. Interesting.

If you disconnect the connector on the compressor clutch, you can measure the resistance across the clutch coil. It should be somewhere around 3-4 ohms. If it very low (like less than 1 ohm) the coil has shorted out internally. That’s pretty rare, though. Usually they fail open. But, anything could happen. If the resistance checks out ok, you can apply 12v and ground to the clutch directly and see if it clicks (be sure to do this with the engine off). Do not jumper the clutch directly to the battery if you haven’t checked to see if it is shorted first though, or your jumper wire will become a fuse and melt, or worse.

Does her fuse box look the same? Same orientation and layout? Perhaps somehow your relay got installed backwards.

Well, you had a 50/50 chance. Pin 30 is the feed from the fused battery positve. Pin 87 goes to the compressor clutch.
The service line DOES have a schrader valve.
Only on the refrig end. I removed the end to the gauge set and the yellow service line is open. My mistake to check that.

No change with the relay direction issue. I’m just taking it into the shop and having them do a diag on it. My Dad took things there and was happy with them and it’s only $100 for the complete check and I can decline service which I most likely will at those repair prices. And I want to do a evac correctly if there’s any refrig still in it which there still was when I checked the valve core this morning. It’s only right, you know ? At least I’ll know what to replace. Thanks for your help.

                          Alright. Take care.
