      Hi.
My ac was working absolutely fine last year. Now the weather is nice again I’ve noticed it does not work.
So I’ve hooked up my gauges. When ac turned off there is 90psi on both side. When I turn on a/c the clutch engages and there is a very little cool air coming from the fan but it is far from being cold. It’s just about fresh. Reading on low side is 80-85psi and on high side is about 95psi. There is no noise at all. Engine idle does not change with ac on or off.
I had some left over gas in the garage so I have put it in system. It was less than a half bottle. It has made no difference.
My first bet is compressor needs replacing but I have seen on google people saying it could be a refridgerant control valve located in the pump. The car is a 2001 peugeot 307 1.6 petrol UK model.
How can I know for sure what needs replacing?
I have rang a garage to get them recover the gas from system and I’ve explained the symptoms. They said they recommend a service and recharge as it could be low on gas.
But my concern is that even if it is low on gas the pressure still need to be lower on the low side and higher on high side.
Any advice would be great. .
      Cheers

As mentioned above.. yes it does turn on.
I think I’ve got the answer now anyway.
I’ve spoken to a commercial fridge service man today. He told me this is definitely my compressor.
          So I gonna replace it.
But this forum may will be helpful for people who looking for the answer.
So if your low side and high side pressure nearly the same then most probably your a/c compressor is faulty.
Dont forget to flush your a/c system before installing the new compressor!

Honestly in my opinion AC work is not for the DIY. Partly for this very reason. AC diagnosis can be complex and without the proper equipment and experience, almost impossible. I commend you for hooking up the pressure gauges, that was a good start. Don’t assume however that you have a compressor problem. It could also be an expansion valve issue or a restriction in the system somewhere. Yes, it could also be the compressor. More information on AC diagnosis here.
