A/C (cooling fan) problem

I have a 2003 Cavalier. Every time when I am at the stop light with the A/C on it will blow out hot air, and it sounds like that it is depressurizing. When I am driving there is cool air. The A/C clutch works, because when it is turned on you can hear it, and there is enough r134a in the system. Please help, thank you.

Run the engine to about 2000 rpm and hold it till it gets to operating temp and see if the fan comes on. If it doesnt come on and its at operating temp take a voltmeter or a testlight and check to see if you’re getting voltage at the fan

            Quoted From bbowden35:

If the cooling fan is not working, then how does the cooling fan turn on with the A/C running?

When the A/C is turned on the engine cooling fan is energized to stay on until the A/C is turned off.

Oh yeah when the A/C is on the temp goes up, and when driving it stabilizes.

A+ on the above post. also check to see if the condenser is blocked.
use a garden hose to flush through with water

Check for voltage at the cooling fan connector blue wire. If you dont have voltage the next thing I would check is the relay. If you do have voltage check the ground and if its good replace the cooling fan

Did you check your coolant system? Is coolant level full? Sounds like a flow issue. Coolant system needs to operate properly in order for a/c to work correctly.

How do I check the cooling fan?

The easiest way is to use a Power Probe III , but if you don’t have one then the
easiest way is to disconnect the plug to the fan and use jumper wires from the battery to the fan. It doesn’t matter which wire goes where just don’t let them touch each other. You don’t have to hold them there when you connect them to the fan, if the fan is good it will spin so let the connection go but din’t let the wires touch each other or touch the positive one to ground and disconnect them from battery.

Are the cooling fan(s) in the engine compartment constantly on when the A/C is on? They should be.

                            fused jumper wires ftw!

The cooling fan is not on when the A/C is running.

I used to use insulated alligator clips, at both ends (unfused), until I got the PPIII
