I stopped to fill up my tires with air, and when i got back in and started it, it started fine,then it died after about 2 seconds. so i tried it again, Same thing. so i reved it and slowly let off the gas until i got it to the normal idle then let off the gas completely and it died. i let it sit for about 10 minutes and it started fine but it idle was just a little lower than normal. this is the first time it has ever done this and i don’t know what caused it.

It sounds like an issue with the idle circuit. First, check to see if you have any codes stored in the computer. If you don’t then try tapping on the IAC valve on the throttle body to see if the idle changes. If it does you might consider replacing the IAC. Some people clean them but it’s not always effective. I suppose it’s worth a try however.

Alright so i cleaned the throttle body and the IAC valve and it started up fine and i let it run for about 10 minutes. then about an hour later i went to start it and the same thing happened again, it really didn’t want to start then when it did, it stalled… and the only way to keep it running was by keeping my foot on the gas. i tryed tapping on the iac and the idle did not change. iv been reading around and from what i can tell it does not have a maf. what could be wrong with it please help!! the check engine light is not on and the idle when it does run is lower than it was before this all happened.
we need codes! dont think it has maf either, my 2000 wranger dosnt. it might just need to relearn the idle after the cleaning of the throttle body (a good way to do that is just drive it for about 20min).
You may need to replace the IAC. I don’t often have success with just cleaning them. It could also be that the computer is getting bad information and not adjusting the idle correctly. This could be a vacuum leak or sensor failure that could cause that issue.
So i have been driving it for about 3 weeks now and the idling problem has not happened. I guess cleaning the throttle body and iac valve did it! Thank you all for your help!!
Well i guess i jinxed my self… It happened again. I have a theory but i do not know if it is correct or not. I realized that most times it has the idling problem it has been when my very crappy battery was almost dead from working on it or holding the door open for more than a minutes. yes it does literally die for holding the door open that long. I don’t know if it is just a coincidence or if it is actually the problem?
