Just had my 99 honda accord 2.3 vtec 5 speed– timing belt changed.. complete (water pump, tensioners, etc…. Now I have a vibration on start up, low idle while moving, and shut down…Some say this could be the balancer pulleys not properly aligned. Would this cause this? If so, will running my car like this harm my engine? The car starts, idles, and runs fine.. It does make some sounds on occasion that it didn’t before, a chirping sound that comes and goes…Any help would be appreciated… thank-you

I am assuming the vehicle did not act this way prior to the timing belt changed.. complete (water pump, tensioners, etc….
In which case something was done improperly.
My suggestion would be go back to the place you had the work done and explain to them the situation and want it corrected.

It’s possible the balancer belt is improperly tensioned or off a tooth. This might also be intensified by a failing motor mount. Either way please check with the place that did the work. I know for an example when I had a mechanic do the timing belt on the highlander, while it idled smooth and all by being off a tooth, it would set a bunch of idiot lights on the dash, so I had to have the belt redone

I have a 99 Accord VTEC as well. I have the F23A1 Engine. I had a similar issue about 2 years ago. The timing belt was about to snap and I was desperate and I took it to a Meineke near my job. They returned it to me, missing a bunch of bolts to the alternator, power steering pump, etc. I had squealing serpentine belts. I took it back and yelled, they fixed it. The vibration was minimal to me.

Months later the vibration got way worse! So bad I couldn’t accelerate without thinking the engine would take off without the car.

I examined the engine mounts. They were all shot and shredded. I imagine the mounts were original (16-17 years old at the time), and when they accessed the timing belt cover, they had to remove a mount. When they did that I assume they did not prop the engine. The additional weight on already old mounts, trashed them all.

I would inspect the engine/transmission mounts.

My advice also, is to not skimp on the mounts if they need to be replaced. OEM Mounts have rubber, most aftermarket mounts are neoprene or something stiff. If anything, and the A/T mount underneath the Air Intake is shot, get an OEM mount for that. It has a vacuum hose, that inflates the mount while idling. Aftermarket replacements just seal that line, and the mount won’t function as intended.

Sorry for the long response. But I’d check the Engine and A/T Mounts.

              I totally didn’t see the 5-speed part.

I don’t know what kind of mounts the transmission will have for the manual.

But in general, I’d examine the engine and transmission mounts. Look for cracks and splits, or any shredding of the rubber.
