Hey guys….. I just picked up a 99 Honda crv for 400$…… Iv drove it about 300 with out any major issues unit now…..
      Mileage shows 389k.
No ticks or wierd noises (clean sounding)
      No smoke or overheat.
      Over all runs perfect.

When i picked up the vehicle it shifted late between 2k and 3k (no slip just delayed)
Check engine light was on when i got it – plugged up a code read and it threw a code for the neutral safty switch (range sensor) – figured this was the issue with the shifting…..

Yesterday i pulled the sensor and cleaned it (had some grim and such on it) I reinstalled it and adjusted it….. Took it for a test drive ( it felt like it was fixed but i only made it 5 blocks or so) before it cut off….. The check engine light flashed 3 times and dingged… Then it cut off and would not refire……
It has no fire at the plugs…..
I know these engines had issues with the igniter and coils – I will be testing them when my tools come back…..

The engine has had a brake up problem when (wot) a few times – it just falls on its face and makes no power…….
But its a gas saver and i see no reason to wot it…
Anyway my question is this – can the neutral safety switch case a no fire issue?

I know they can cause a no crank no start but have never seen one crank but no fire.
(I never seen one fail and crank) but this one is apparently bad bad because iv cleared codes and it just comes back.( it’s bad but still allows the engine to run) at least until now….
So any info on the neutral safety switch?

This model is under a recall for failed ignition switches just like Accords and Civics. The failure can be intermittent or permanent and can cause lack of spark on a cranking engine.

If that’s the problem and if you can get it to a dealer the repair should be free of charge. I don’t have a schematic in front of me but a proper jumper wire routed to the right spot could get it running temporarily. I’ll dig and see if I can find a wiring diagram.

Check Fuse 13 with the key on. There should be power to that fuse from a yellow/green wire and through it. If there is no power the ign. switch is likely faulty. Maybe you will get lucky and only the fuse has popped.

We currently have quite a few recalls on ignition switches, from past and current Honda’s.
