      Hi there, Eric,

I have this clunk in my left front wheel and i am trying to find out what it is and fix it. While standing stil and start to drive from, for instance an parking spot, most of the time i have to turn my stearing wheel al the way to the right to exit the parking spot. While having the stearing wheel in this postition and slowly start to drive out i hear an clunk from the left front. The sound also is heard when turning the stearing wheel back in the stright trough position and backing up. Sometimes i hear it when driving down the road en go over an speed bump. when the car is up in the air, from the upward motion of the speed bump. i hear it as well. Does someone have an idea what this is? or how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

      Kind regards,

      Vincent

i would suggest lifting up the front end…safely…. and shaking it down. Shake side to side, and up and down with your hands. have a friend shake it while you look and see what is loose. That kind of noise makes me suspect ball joints or control arm bushings. “College man” has a good point as well. If their is no play when you shake the front end (off the ground) then try turning the steering wheel to the left and/or right and try and shake it down at that drive angle too.

Hope this helps, its not every single detail, but will probably give you a good start

I’m thinking along the lines of a suspension noise too but also check the axle shafts

Yup, check all of the suspension parts and the CV shafts.
I’m betting on the CV shafts or sway bar links.

A guy at work has this same car. He asked me to look at it, and the first thing I looked at were the sway bar links. They were loose and hopping around in their ‘homes’. The rods that run between the mounting assemblys were easily moved. I would bet this is your problem. Eric demonstrates how much fun it is to replace these similar links in this video:

I know it’s a Honda, but they are similar setups. Good luck.

In addition to the posted video link I’m not sure if that vehicle has a ‘steering stop’ set up but the noise you describe could have something to do with that, here’s a link to a video I did on lubricating a chassis that includes what I’m talking about with steering stops.
