Hello All,
I have a 99 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.9L. It has 175,000 miles on it and I started having issues with the oil pressure. When driving the truck and it gets to operating temperature I have normal oil pressure. However, once I come to a stop light or stop sign and the RPM drops below 1,000 RPMS, the oil pressure gauge drops to zero, and then once the RPM drops to 500, the truck will idle rough and stall. Before it stalls and when I bring the RPM back above 1,000, the oil pressure gauge will go back to normal, and stay at normal as long as the RPM stays above 1,000. I replaced the oil pressure sending unit that is on the back of the block, and the oil pump was replaced 2 years ago. I am beginning to think that the main bearings are shot. If this is so, would it be better to rebuild the engine, or replace it with a Jasper engine or could it be something else?
