99 civic loud ticking

My buddy has a 99 civic 1.6L SOHC. While driving it it started to make a very loud ticking sound. It sounds like its coming from the head on the exhaust side. Also now it will stall at stops sometimes but other wise seems to idle fine. I know the valves on these need adjusted but I didnt think a valve could come out of adjustment that fast. The sevice history is it has over 200,000 had a water pump replaced blower motor replaced and a new radiator. Any help or ideas will be appreciated

Loud ticking?? Can you explain more. It could be a lot of things exhaust leak, axles, you name it.

Its coming from the motor for sure it does it at idle It sounds to me like a valve tick. I dont believe it is an exhaust leak I know those tick as well but it sounds like its coming throw the valve cover. He just told me that he had to add a few quarts of oil to it after the tick started but it didnt go away.

So engine noise? Right. I would think you need a valve adjustment. If you have done that already. Then I think you have cam wear. Also not sure if you are, but don’t run synthetic. Try some lucas oil stabilizer it will help with engine noise. Hear is a video.
