in order too replace the shift solenoids you will have to remove the transmission from the vehicle or drop the subframe to access the side cover of the transmission. if you are this far in i suggest replacing the the pressure control solenoid as well like this guy is doing, how many miles on your regal?

here is a video you have too remove the cover he is removing and a lot of the solenoids are in there.

I did this job a few months back on my GM 3.4. It was shifting very hard at times. Afterwards, the transmission shifted like new. The video AceofSpades shared is helpful and informative. You will need to remove the 2 dog bone mounts at the front of the engine. Additionally, the air breather assembly will need to be removed to drop the engine down on the left side. If you’re going to tackle this labor intensive job, you might as we’ll replace the epc solenoid, lock up solenoid as well as the others while in the tranny. You can find a kit that sells all of them together for less than a hundred bucks on Ebay. Make certain they are AC Delco original. Best of luck. Let us know how it turns out.

i say however if your Transmission has enough miles on it you may also consider just getting it overhauled if you are going to go that deep. the 4T65E Transmissions are known for going out beteen 150,000-220,000 miles, i have heard of cases of them lasting maybe 270,000 miles but eventually the clutch disks wear out and need replacing…

and Tomatofarmer1 is right, you will have too remove the “dogbone mounts.” as well as possibly undoing the radiator hoses to allow enough movement of the engine, also you will probably have to undo a few electrical connections, the bolts that hold the subframe too the uni body i would suggest spraying down good with some rust killing spray like PB blast or liquid wrench or WD-40 because those can rust solid, yes while you are in that deep replace all the components tomatofarmer suggested, as good a time as any while you have the chance.
