Hey folks – not sure what’s going on here. My daughter’s ’99 Accord LX, 6 Cyl, has maint req’d light that I can reset but it immediately comes back on. I just changed the oil and filter, light was on prior to the change. I ran ScanMaster and TurboScan with my ELM327 OBDII BT unit and neither app is reporting any trouble codes. Not sure what else to check. Appreciate anyone’s help/suggestions.

      thanks in advance

If you’re doing the reset procedure and its coming back on, try unplugging the battery for a few minutes after doing the procedure. If it continues to come back, you might have to take it to a dealer. Just make sure you’re doing the correct procedure. Sometimes it’ll go away after you drive the car for a certain amount of time.

Hey thisisbuod – thanks for the quick reply, I really appreciate that. The procedure that I’m using is to hold down the Trip Odometer, turn to ignition on, without starting the car, and then in about 10s, the Maint Req’d light goes off and about 1s – 2s after that it comes right back on. At your suggestion, I did in fact, disconnect the positive batt cable for about 15m, reconnected, and still the MR light stayed on. Just for grins I repeated the process and still no go. I’ll drive the car for awhile to see if the condition changes but I can’t believe that it will. I also can’t believe that I’d have to take it to a dealer to get it cleared, seems a bit ridiculous to me that Honda would require that. Again, thanks much for the suggestions. Open to additional suggestions if you or anyone else has them.

          Thanks all for your time.

I’ve had trouble with this a few times. It’s not that Honda requires it. I think it’s just that the counter is getting tripped up and the manufacturer specific scan tool resets the counter. You won’t have to do it every time just maybe this time.
Just to be sure; you have the key in the off position, hold the odo button, turn the key to on, and you should see the numbers flashing and counting down. Some Hondas you need to be on the odometer. Some you need to be on the trip a or b. Try it on all three. If none of these work, the dealer might have to reset it with their scan tool. Like I said, this won’t be a regular thing.

I finally resolved this. Research on the internet did not yield any proper information to reset this, IMHO. I finally bought a Haynes manual and in there, it stated Hold the Trip/Reset button UNTIL the light goes off, which is LONGER than 10 seconds. It’s actually closer to 20s but once I held down that button until the light went out, it stayed out. Thanks to all that replied.
