howdy, i have a 98 pontiac sunfire. 5 speed manual. we put a new clutch and pressure plate in, thanks to Erics video. then we re-assembled and bled the system. it seemed to work ok but the clutch pedal felt weird. so in the second attempt to bleed the fluid stopped flowing. we never let the reservoir go dry. the clutch pedal now goes all the way to the floor with no resistance.can any one help?

Sounds like the master is bad. Eric’s video on clutch hydraulics.

Good luck, and welcome to the forums.

if you have the bleeder open to the slave cylinder and the clutch reservoir is full and you have pumped it for a while and no fluid has bled out
then I would say that the clutch master cylinder is bad and needs replacement. try one last thing.break the line connection at the slave cylinder
and put your finger over it and someone pump the clutch pedal a couple of times to see if fluid pressure is exerted. that will prove that the bleeder
is not clogged.if no pressure than the clutch master is bad. good luck and keep us posted. C8-) Btw If you do find the master bad I would also replace
the slave. it is the next in line to go.

+ 1 on checking the master cylinder. look under the dash where the clutch rod comes through. see if it is wet. also pull the check valve out of the booster and check for fluid inside the booster.

Did you have the issue with the clutch pedal before the clutch replacement?

If not, i would double check your work and try re-bleeding the system.

+1 with the above posts also.

thanks for your suggestions. i will check the master cylinder. we did not have the problem b4 the clutch replacement. and right after the clutch job it was working.
the pedal was spongy so we decided to bleed some more, that’s when we had the problem.
                  thanks.

yes, one more thing. we did replace the slave when we did the clutch and pressure plate.

                    thanks.

If you aren’t losing tons of fluid to a big leak, then you are probably left with a bad master. Good luck man.

Keep us posted, I agree that the most likely cause would be an issue with the master cylinder but it wouldn’t hurt to go back and check your work just to be sure everything is hooked up correctly.
