My daughter has a 98 mitsubishi eclipse 2.0.129,000miles she has replaced the plugs and wires, both o2 sensors, and coil. cleand IAC,cam sensor, also egr is good and main timing looks fairly new with no signs of trouble. It has error codes p0171 and p0301 lean fuel, i have checked for vacuum and gasket leaks with brake cleaner no indication of leak any where have checked fuel injectors for continuity all around 14 ohms. I have erased codes but eventually come back, at first start will run and rev perfect for 3-5 minutes then run a little rough, if i turn it off and restart will run perfect, this happens on all restarts and after 3-5 min it returns to run rough. has new air cleaner and have run lucas injector cleaner instead of taking rail and injectors. after a stop at stop light, it has a real time running with out mis or misfire. going to clean crank and coolant sensors today, the gremlin seems to be elusive. also fixed exhaust leak and codes went away for quite a while, put screwdriver to injectors and open and closing sounds like small difference in speed but in all the same speed. any help would be appreciated thanks for reading hoyze1@yahoo.com

Try cleaning the MAF sensor (only use MAF cleaner) and then reset the code and take for a drive…… The MAF may be too far gone to clean though, and may need replaced.

There is no MAF for this year, i’ve been trying to reset the ECM, by all accounts i’m told it’s in the center counsel, but i find the wiring harness but don’t see it, it looks like its under hood on drivers side ?

maf.map. arent they the same, i cleaned it, it did seem to run better at first, but this is a reoccuring theme, replacing it fri. I also read about crank and cam sensor, was looking on the fire wall side of the motor and there is two sensors, one is plugged in and the other has no wires to the sensor. i found a wire on the harness, there was one wire by it self, its for a flat male pin which the ??? sensor has two, of the two sensors its closer to the rear of the motor any ideas. thank you…

MAF is a Mass Airflow Sensor. MAP is Manifold Absolute Pressure…. You may want to put the car on a scanner to check what information your ECM is getting…. The ECM needs data from the Camshaft position sensor, Crank position sensor, Intake Air Temperature sensor, MAP Sensor and when warm enough, the O2 sensor. If any of those sensors are not sending data or sending bad data you can have issues….

As far as what those sensors are… See if you can post a pic…

I’ve been looking for something showing sensor locations, can’t find much, but here are some pictures, again on the firewall side on drivers side on block.
