I recently picked up a 98 Honda Civic dx from a friend. It has a few issues that I’ve tried to fix. I watched your video about replacing the speed sensor as the speedo was all over the place or not working. I replaced it and it still does it. Also the lights would pulse and my alternater would make a chirping noise when the lights pulsed. It was not the belt as the noise was coming from inside the alt. Every once in a while it would stop making the noise and the lights would be back to norm.I decided to replace the alternator, after replacing the alternator and hooking everthing up, I found the alternator was not charging the battery at all, I removed it, had it tested, the machine said it was fine. I put it back in again and tested it in the car and it’s not charging the car at all. Also of note, there is no battery light coming on in the dash that would indicate its not charging the car. there is no battery light when I turn the car on either. Any ideas what else I could try? The wires are all connected.

Hello! When you acquired the said vehicle, was it stock or was there any modifications? Wires may have been altered. Has the car ever been submerged in water? Try to visually check the wiring harness. Look for signs of corrosion on terminals.

The car has no mods. It was sitting in a garage for 3 months. Before that it was used every few months. It was well kept. It was serviced regular. I was told there is a fuse for the alternator under the dash, I’m going to check that to see if that’s an issue.. As of right now there is no voltage getting to the battery.

My apology. I forgot that it has fuse box under the dash just above your left knee if one is sitting in it. Second row, vertical. I hope the fuse is busted. Coz your problem would be solved if it is. By The way, does your car start with the new alt? but its not charging. Is your car getting elect from the battery? You could turn the ex. headlights on? Just trying to narrow it down.. Coz I have a mechanic coming over today to check my wife’s car. Ill get his opinion and give you feedback.

Ok it was the alternator fuse! Car started charging the battery, my speedo started working again and the battery light comes on when I first turn the key and goes off like it should when started. Took it in to get tested everthing was charging at the right rate. Took it for a roadtrip to Milwaukee last nite, everything was great.. Went out today, turned it on battery lite came on when I turned key, started up, noticed when I took off the speedo was not working. changed fuse again, it started to work again…something is blowing my fuse… like I said, car is fully stock, no mods, something has to be overloading the fuse..any idea?
