Sputtered on 50 mile drive home from work, slightly at first. Near home stopped at light, went dead. Checked spark, it’s good and checked fuel at banjo bolt, good pressure. New dist, new cap/button, new wires, new coil, new plugs. Rotary button turning when cranking (chk for broke T belt). Checked fuses. Here’s the kicker, no codes. At a lose, not sure where to check next. Thx in advance.

Okay after turning car off I disconnected the neg and positive from battery. Disconnected and cleaned all grounds. None of them looked corroded. I started the car back up and it ran fine at first. It ran perfect. The longer it ran it began to miss a little. Tried to throttle up a little and it bogged down. The missing got worse over a ten minute period until it finally went dead. Checked injector pulse after it went dead and it pulsed fine. Seems like problem slowly gets worse as engine heats up. Need a little help. Distr? A sensor? STILL no codes. CEL bulb works for 2-3 sec when key on.

Took apart distributor while waiting in new one to arrive. Noticed the insulation on wires was dried out, cracked and missing pieces.

Got the car running this morning! B) It was the distributor. I just need to get the timing set now and this one will be behind me. Thanks for the help and also to AM-Autoparts.com for $85 distributor.

If you have any more problems you might consider the ignition switch. These cars have a recall out on them for the switches which can cause the cars to cut out or die.

Even if it’s not the problem you might get it done anyway as it’s free of charge at the dealer. Give them a call with the VIN to see if it’s covered.
