I Recently got a 1998 Honda accord coupe v6 with what I suspect is electrical issues, It stalls time to time while driving and has fluctuating rpm. I took it to a mechanic and he pulled the code for a Bad egr valve, however as he went to pull it into the shop, it would not start and the egr code was no longer there, instead the code for the crankshaft sensor was pulled. He replaces the sensor twice and the engine stll shuts off or does not start and the rev counter still fluctuates. Ive read about the ignition and electrical problems cars of this vintage have, could it be electrical issues? i just want a second opinion, please help. Thanks

Sounds like you might need to find a more qualified technician. Any technician worth his salt will test and diagnose the problem versus just changing a part based on a code. While it wont start you would need to see what you are missing. Spark or fuel. This will give you a direction to go.

Being that I ruled out most of the mechanical problems, do you think it could be an electrical problem

(More insight on the car, Its a 98′ Honda Accord that recently had its engine replaced and also had a transmission rebuilt, the EGR and crankshaft sensor were replaced as i said, and my current mechanic is saying that it has no spark, however the car does actually start and is drivable for a short time before dying)

Sounds like a bad ground somewhere. Seen similar issues where the grounds get corroded and caused all sorts of different intermitten problems.

Ok having an engine put in it changes things. Is it a junk yard engine? I have seen many times where when doing a big job like that someone forgets to tighten a ground or the ground connection is tight but the block is corroded from sitting in the junk yard which causes a bad ground issue. I would look over all of the wiring very thoroughly and make sure all connections are tight and clean.

Yeah it was a Junkyard engine, from a 99′ accord. I’ll go off that advice as that was my initial hunch, thank you.
