I have a 98 honda accord and it is leaking oil under my distributor and I have replaced my valve cover gasket, distributor o-ring, my distributor, new inner seal, oil pressure switch gasket, and vtec solenoid gasket both of them. Idk what to do. I believe it is my camshaft seal but i do not know exactly where it is.

I will probably be posting pictures soon

Let me know if it is a 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder. If it’s the 6 cylinder I can guide you right through it. Let us know.

I can help if its 4 cylinder too but I have done the 6 cylinder personally.

Ok which side of the cylinder head? The pulley side for the timing belt or the distributor side?

ok if you are standing in front of the car the timing belt is on the right and the distributor is on the left side

Ok so what I would do is, remove the valve cover – the gasket may be ok since its fairly new you said, but best bet is to buy a new one.

On the far left is the camshaft holder that will have four bolts that holds the seal down, remove those bolts and lightly tap on it with a rubber/plastic mallet to shake it and break it loose. You might have to pry up on it too with a flat-head screwdriver like the guy in the video above did. Be careful where you pry, those holders have dowel pins in them you don’t want to damage the cylinder head up though…
After the seal is removed I would tighten that cam holder back down to specification and tap the new seal in with a appropriate sized socket (one that fits the circle seal).

You may not have enough room if the distributor is right there though. If that’s going to be an issue remove the distributor too. IF you remove the distributor scribe a mark where it meets the head to keep the ignition timing close on.

After that spray the area down with Brake Kleen – start it up and check for leaks. Also I would buy that seal the guy in the video above used, it looks like pretty good quality.

                            FAIL!!!!
I took everything off the valve cover the distributor and took off the four bolts on the left side as you can see then started hitting and prying was careful every time i would pry i could see the entire cams trying to go up with it. I didn’t want to break anything so i decided to put everything back and return the seal if you could tell me what i did wrong ill appreciate it and i know i could have probably have taken better pictures

It looks like you missed that bottom left bolt underneath the ‘5’ in the second picture. I know I said 4 bolts but that’s what it looks like to me.

If you have a leak under the distributor it has nothing to do with the cam seal. The cam seal is on the other side of the engine behind the cam gear. I suspect your leak is due to the valve cover or the distributor ‘o’ ring. I know you say you replaced the distributor ‘o’ ring but if you didn’t lubricate it with a little oil before installing it, it might have rolled over and caused a leak. In addition, if you don’t put a small dab of RTV on the corners of the valve cover gasket when you install it, it can leak from the corners of the cam ‘hump’. I cover the valve cover gasket install in this video.

                                  Good luck

Hi Eric I did put oil around the o ring. And ill probably buy a new valve cover gasket and put some RTV on the corners. Everything else on the car is perfect tho thanks a lot everyone for your help. And I hope ill be able to help you down the road.
