I’m trying to figure out what my options are on this car. The alternator has been replaced twice(salvaged alternators). The car won’t stay running. The way it was clicking when I tried to start it, and wouldn’t stay running when I jumped it made me think starter. So I replaced that(salvaged). Still wouldn’t start w/o a jump, and would run for only a few seconds when I disconnected it. I recently did a tune-up on this car and one of the plugs was covered in oil, and the oil on the dipstick seems real thin like it has gas in it. Reeks of gas when it does run. It’s not milky so I don’t think it’s water. What is it if not the battery, alternator, or starter keeping it from running? It does idle rough like it has a miss. And, there is oil all over the valve cover gaskets, and intake gasket. Is it blown gaskets keeping it from running?

Sounds to me like you still have a charging system issue. If the alternator is charging it should run even on a dead battery. Is there a battery light on or charging system failure message?

The fact that the car dies when you disconnect the jumper cables tells me that there is a problem with the charging system. You said you replaced the alternator with a “salvage” one. Meaning from the junk yard? I learned the hard way to never get a junk yard part with electronics in it.

I would have your battery and alternator load tested at autozone. They do it for free.

A blown intake gasket can cause the car to stall if it is a large enough vacuum leak. Also, the gas smell could be caused by a gas leak somewhere that could (if it is large enough) be dropping fuel pressure.

If you have to jump the car. sounds like the battery is dead.
as suggested have the battery and charging system load tested.
