 I have a 1998 Ford Taurus SE and would like to add a Keyless Remote. I followed the instructions from the Remote Dealer for this car
and the car doesn’t go into Remote Door Lock Mode. I turned the Ignition switch the 8 Cycles (ON/OFF= 1 Cycle) and the
door locks don’t move. Is there a other way to check if the Remote Door Lock Mode is active?

If your car didn’t come factory equipped with keyless entry/ remote locks, then a remote isn’t going to work.
Your car needs to have a door lock module and, of course, power locks, before you can use a remote to unlock the doors.

I bought the car used and didn’t have remotes. I thought that if there was power locks,
that I could add remotes. Should I go to the Dealership and give them my VIN to check
          the specs on my car?

            Thanks Bonnieman,
The site was very helpful. Now I know what features the car has. I has a feature
for the locks called, “Central Locking System”. I may have to go to a Ford or
auto electrical shop to have this explained to me.

            Thanks Again

              You’re welcome.
Central Locking System is just power door locks.
Look below that line for a line stating With Door Entry Remote Control Unit

The SE normally did come with remote keyless entry BUT the SE models that were purchased for car rental companies had this feature deleted at the factory—so it would not be on the features list of the website you checked.

Have you retried the off/on so that ON is action #8–just in case your count was off?
Did you check the fuse boxes in your car to see if there’s just a blown fuse that’s keeping it from activating?
