I have a 98 Ford Escort 2.0. About a week ago I got a check engine light on and when I had the codes pulled I got P0401 p1131. I was promised by the parts guy at AutoZone that EGR one would be fixed by replacing the EGR valve, and he said it could even fix the 1131 code. So I figured I would trust him. ( I know I should have listened to Eric and never go souly on what the parts guy said)So I bought the part and put it on. While the part was off I did do a little cleaning in the actual port. I used some carb cleaner and then scraped the little amount of gunk that was there. I put everything back together and still had the codes. After doing a little research I found out that its more likely the sensor than the actual valve. So I was wondering where to go from here. Is there a good way to test the sensor. And The other thing I was wondering is could the two codes be related? I know the other code is referring to the Oxygen sensor after the CAT.
Just trying to get some advice on where to start or where to go from here. I have watched the videos that Eric has up for the P0401 Ford one. I was just trying to see what some of you guys think about it.
