I got a 98 dodge stratus 2.5L autostick trans with some shifting problems. The car sit for Awhile a round the house for a good while it did shift ok.I put a new battery in it checked fuilds let her run and for a good while and test drove. It shifted hard 1-2 or wired I thought it was just from sitting so I drove pretty much 1/2 tank out of here.Runs great Shifting not to good it has that autostick you can put it in D and go or you can shift just like a standard. This is was it does hard weird shifting 1-2 them when shifting up through gears it’s like a hold back shift in D and stick. Then down shifting it’s like a brake down shift it’s weird. Also when puting in R it’s smooth when putting in D it’s hard shift at a stop. The things I did checked fuild again it was good and red, lubed up shifting linkage,no check engine light put plugged scanner in I got some codes P code I can’t recall but one said replace speed sensor ( I did that)The other code told me to replace the input speed sensor(I did) and the other told me to replace the output speed sensor(I didn’t do they gave me two input sensor in different brands. But with 3 codes telling me to replace 3 sensors whats the odd of three sensors going bad at once unless they work with each other. So I still gotta replace the output sensor. I check the TCM fuse and TCM relay. now where do I go from what do I if I replace the output I say pull it ??

The input and output shaft speed sensors do work with each other. There’s a good chance that what you thought was another input speed sensor is going to be the exact same part as the output speed sensor. I’d try throwing in that part…it’ll probably fit and work just fine. Your transmission should be a 41TE which was damn near the only transmission for Chrysler FWD products for a very long time. Those input and output speed sensors do fail and I wouldn’t be surprised if they both didn’t happen to fail at the same time. Of course, letting the car sit for an extended time might have allowed for a furry woodland creature to chew on wires in your harness.

The input and output shaft speed sensors are about 6-8″ apart from each other. Go ahead and replace that other sensor, but take the time to look at the wiring harness in that area while you’re in there. Then come back if you’re still having problems.

if the output sensor fixes it I will be like wow a little sensor can do that. I haven’t got it yet had to do some other work.

Well guys I installed the output sensor I was hoping for the best and that was blow to the Ba*** in about 2.5 Seconds. Still hard odd shifting 1 to 2 and when when get up to seed to 40 and slowing down it’s like a hold down shift it moves your body toward the front of the car. The wires have plastic on them but that doesn’t mean anything because I had map sensor short that was rapped in plastic. To be honest I checked fuse and relay and now I’am going to replace fiuld and filter. where to go next I’am lost I have never had to deal with electronic problems with a tranny I know it will give a code sometime. But wherte do I go next?

There may be some internal issues inside the transmission causing the problem. Be sure to check the fluid level and condition as well. You don’t want to see bubbles or air in the fluid. If you do see bubbles then this could indicate an internal problem. It could also be electrical. For that troubleshooting I think the service manual has the best information.

I changed the fuiled filter and add sea foa trans tune. It helped I drove it a good while I live on a gravel road. I thought I would take it out on black top to get in over never the tranny has never slipped .It took it out a black top coutry road road well when u things can’t could get any worst almost back to the gravel road a deer a came from the right in mid air and hit the side dented the fender /dented the door/ broke mirror and headlight lens. I tell ya this car has been back luck I got it for 700 bucks the guy thought something was serious wrong with it I test drove I stopedd and found a pulg wire wasn’t on all the way.I bought it. Then the fuel pump went out took 4 airtex to get a good one becasue on the unit u have pump/presssure reg/sender unit. I really 3 one was boxed wrong.

I was wondering could it be the Transmission Solenoid? I be driving it trying to get a tranny code. I hook my scanner up it auto reeds the trans mod but no codes.

Yeah ERIC the CAR GUY I got a question for yeah it has that auto stick it’s a automatic you can drive it like manual too. To drive it like a manual you pull it back to D and move the lever to the right passenger and on the dash you can see your gears. It’s never use to do these with your foot on brake move the stick to first gear it’s ok then move to seconded gear with your foot on the brake it make lung forward stalls the engine out. It never use to do that. What’s your thought on that
