I am having a problem with my 1998 Honda Accord Lx 5 speed manual transmission. It currently has 117,000 miles on it. I believe that it is still on the original clutch (bought used). The problems is that the car sometimes just will not get in ANY gear even thought the clutch is depressed all the way. Fortunately, this doesn’t happen when I am driving. It only happens when I start the car and want to get it moving.

I highly suspect a problem in the clutch / hydraulic / linkage system. If the problem effects ALL the gears then it can ONLY be a problem with something that interacts with all the gears. This would be the clutch pedal adjustment, hydraulics, clutch disc and pressure plate. The only problem that comes to mind that has to deal with the actual transmission would be a problem with the input / output shafts but if it eventually DOES go into gear then I doubt these are at fault.

I am no expert so I cannot offer any thing else, keep us posted!!

I’ve seen this lots of times, in fact if you watch my clutch video it has a similar problem. What sometimes happens is that the springs come out of the clutch disc and get wedged between the pressure plate and the clutch OR the pressure plate itself has broken causing the same problem. Either way your going to have to remove the trans and inspect the clutch.

I’m having a similar issue, with a 91 Civic Std. Hatch. I just boought the car and on the way home, after stopping at TBell, it wouldn’t go into gear.
After coasting to the side of the highway, I noticed the clutch pedal was pretty far to the left.
Looking underneath the dash their was a broken round bar that connects to another mount.
The switch above the pivot point on the clutch is not being hit.

Is it not going into gear because of the broken clutch peddle assembly and therefore cable doesn’t move enough or would it be something needing a clutch removal inspection?

What does that plunger switch do?
